-
2015 Henry Fuchs Pinot Noir Rouge de Ribeauvillé - rating : 86 - Drink Date : 2018-2022
The 2015 Pinot Noir Rouge de Ribeauvillé was harvested by hand in the early morning, fermented with natural yeasts for about ten days before the pressing, and aged for ten months in a wooden vat. This Pinot opens with a very fruity cherry aroma on the nose. Silky, round and fruity on the palate, this is a medium-bodied, firm, fresh, elegant and nicely tart, crisp Pinot Noir with a sour cherry aroma in the finish. It is well concentrated and aromatic, and even shows floral aromas. Drink it young.
-
2015 Henry Fuchs Pinot Noir Rouge comme Renard - rating : 90 - Drink Date : 2018-2030
Entirely sourced in a .2-hectare plot on the flatter and windier top of the marly Kirchberg Grand Cru, which was planted by Paul's grandfather and yields just 30 hectoliters per hectare, the 2015 Pinot Noir Rouge comme Renard was fermented with 8% whole bunches, but extracted very gently by manual punch-downs. Aged for ten months in Burgundian barrels, the wine opens with an intense and spicy yet precise, fresh and pure dark cherry aroma with some flinty flavors. The wine is full-bodied, dense and fresh on the palate, with a firm tannin structure and an excellent freshness and spicy flavors. This is serious red wine with great finesse, grip and a lingering salinity. This is a stunning success from the 2015 vintage thanks to the excellent Pinot terroir that is windy and fresh during the night, thanks to the wind coming down from the Vosges through the Strengbach valley.
-

2015 Henry Fuchs Riesling - rating : 87 - Drink Date : 2018-2025
The 2015 Riesling is sourced from warmer, earlier-ripening but also very cold, north-exposed plots and fermented in stainless steel and large oak vats. It's clear and fresh as well as spicy on the nose. On the palate, this is a round and mouth-filling, elegant Riesling with a good mineral grip and freshness that gives length and a straighter character to the wine. Still reductive, it will benefit from further bottle aging.

From gneiss soils in Ribeauvillé (which is very rare here), and a very steep vineyard, the 2015 Hagel Riesling opens clear, fresh and fine on the nose where refreshing lemon flavors are displayed. On the palate, this is a crystalline and highly delicate Riesling with a very fine and salty acidity, and a dry yet aromatic finish. On the palate, this is a dense and full-bodied Riesling with good mineral tension and freshness. Clearly dominated by its marly terroir and fresh exposition, this is a long and pretty complex, well-structured Riesling with a stimulating purity in the mouthwatering finish. This is an age-worthy Riesling at a very attractive price. There were 2,500 bottles produced, which are sold completely in Alsace.

2015 Henry Fuchs Kirchberg de Ribeauvillé Pinot Gris - rating : 91 - Drink Date : 2021-2027
Coming from the top, windier, flatter and later-ripening part of the grand cru and fermented in small oak barrels, the 2015 Kirchberg de Ribeauvillé Pinot Gris opens with an oaky/toasty speck flavor of small, used Burgundy barrels (one, four and five years old) and yeasty flavors (aged on the fine lees until August). Full-bodied, intense and rich, with Cognac flavors and a nice juiciness, finesse and elegance, this is a highly interesting, slightly bitter and well-structured wine. There's a long and salty finish.

"Alsace-Riesling "Hagel" 2015, Henry Fuchs - 15 €
Jeb Dunnuck Commentaries
2015 Henry Fuchs Riesling Kirchberg de Ribeauvillé
Coming from more limestone soils and 40-50-year-old vines, the 2015 Riesling Kirchberg de Ribeauvillé offers much more depth and complexity as well as perfumed notes of apple peel, lime, quince, and exotic spices. Rich and layered on the palate, with plenty of texture and mid-palate depth, as well as vibrant acidity, it's beautiful today yet will certainly kee for a decade or more.
2015 Henry Fuchs Sylvaner Vieille Vigne
From a terrific estate tjat's today managed by Paul Fuchs, the 2015 Sylvaner Vieille Vigne comes from 65-year-old vines and deep clay soils in Alsace. There's only around 100-cases brought in to the US but it's a beauty, elegant, incredibly delicious white offering notes of citrus, white flowers, and salty minerality. For 16 bucks you get a beautifully balanced, uncomplicated, yet classy wine that's ideal for a meal starter over the coming year. It has a kiss of sweetness and is going to be versatile on the dinner table.
